Birthday Dedication

September 4, 2008 by Kip Durney

I can’t believe the girls are going to be 2 in a few weeks!!!  It’s crazy… time does fly.  Although our house has never been so loud, the girls have never been so sweet – for the most part anyway.  They certainly have their moments.

But I digress.  So, the whole time the girls were in the NICU, we maintained a website to keep friends and family informed of their progress and our nightmare.  Some serious, some sad, some funny, some just venting.  But what’s great is that for their 2nd birthday, I’ve decided to make a book out of their website guest book entries, pictures, and our journal updates.  Great idea huh?  Well, it is as long as you don’t read any of the old entries at work!

It’s a guaranteed cryfest and that’s not good in particular if you are a guy!  Nice stereotype there huh?  So anyway, I wanted to include a dedication page.  I came up with this… what do you think?

To say that you both have faced a great deal of adversity in your lives is certainly an understatement of immense proportions.  You have fought with all your might to be here and to overcome every obstacle that was put before you and you did it all with a smile on your face.  You have experienced and endured more challenges in the first few years of your life than most people will in a lifetime.

You amaze and inspire us all.

It’s difficult to explain how proud of you we are and how much we love you.  It’s been a long and difficult road for all of us but to watch you grow into the amazing little girls that you are, humbles us.

Always remember how hard you fought to be here, the challenges you overcame, the people that supported you and love you, and most of all, that you have already proven that you can accomplish anything.  Embrace life with reckless abandon and experience all that life has to offer you.  Nothing is out of your reach – NOTHING.

This book is a record of this part of your life’s journey.  We look forward to seeing how you write the next chapter.

We love you, unconditionally, and forever – the two angels that changed our lives forever.

The Innate Appreciation of Farting

August 21, 2008 by Kip Durney

What is it about farting that is so amusing to guys and kids? It’s not funny to women that’s for sure – just ask Val (my wife). My twin girls (Ava & Zoe) are almost two years old and I assure you, they think they are funny too.

Let me try to paint a picture:

We are sitting on the couch last night watching Two and a Half Men (their favorite TV show and a story for another time) – Zoe on my lap, Ava on Val’s. I notice Zoe grab her diaper and lock her legs and POOOOOF!! She immediately spins her head around to look at me with this overly proud smile on her face.

Now how am I supposed to not laugh or smile? Even Val did.

But just as fast, her sister Ava, holds her breath, pushes and POOOOOF, poof – a double shot. The same appreciation of what she created in the air was certainly as evident as when her sister pushed one out.

Giggling ensued, naturally. I guess we come pre-programmed to appreciate the fine art of farting.

Just ask Ava & Zoe.
